About the Afar language

Afar, also known as Adal, Afaraf, Affarigna, Qafar af or ʿAfár af, is a language of Ethiopia.

It has over 1,300,000 users in the Afar, Amhara, and Somali regions: eastern lowlands.

Afar is also the statutory provincial working language in Afar Region (1994, Constitution, Art 47).

Dialects include Northern Afar, Central Afar, Aussa, Baadu (Ba’adu) and it is related to Saho
